The City's New Urban Area: Aldgate Plaza & Pavilion 19th Jan 2017

Aldgate has been undergoing numerous regeneration projects which are effectively contributing to local area redevelopment and growth. Currently one of the major key developments in the area is the ongoing construction of the “Aldgate Plaza”. The green-space is going to be located between St. Botolph’s Without Aldgate Church and Sir John Cass’s Foundation Primary School. The new public square which is due to be completed in December 2017, is aiming to unite the aforementioned heritage listed buildings while creating Aldgate’s newest open space. The need for a public open space has long been a topic of discussion for The City of London Corporation. Local statistics show that only 4% of Aldgate’s 1.33 hectares area is open space whereas this number reaches up to 19% in the Thames and the Riverside areas.

The main scope of Aldgate Plaza development is to create an environment for the local businesses and communities to get together: from water features for kids to play with, to special lighting design by Light Bureau to relax pedestrians and encourage integration of local imagery, no detail is being left out.

One of the major developments within the Plaza will be the Pavilion. The pavilion is planned to be located in the north end of the Plaza and will be home to a café and toilet facilities. Aldgate, and in fact the City in general, is saturated with branded cafés and shops. What the pavilion will offer will be a high quality, independent café for the community to enjoy. According to current plans, the pavilion area will be 105 m2, including seating, preparation areas, storage, servery and disabled access toilets. The opening hours of the pavilion will be extended to evenings and weekends to encourage local residents to visit. The new development will also be a centre for local educational events.

Aldgate Plaza and Pavilion development promise to raise the already elevated value of Aldgate and the City area - creating one more reason why your next office should be based here.
