Make the most of your office tea breaks 23rd Feb 2018

According to the Tea and Infusions Organisation, people in Britain consume an incredible 60 billion cups of tea per year, which equates to approximately 900 cups per person. At Targetspace, we know that tea breaks are firmly embedded in office culture, so we’ve put together a list of some of the many different teas, each with different benefits for your health, that you should try to combat some of the different feelings we experience at work.

A Monday pick-me-up.

You know the feeling… tired, and wishing the weekend went on for longer. Our preferred choice for Monday motivation is a cup of Hibiscus tea, it’s natural anti depressant and energising qualities can help with feelings of fatigue, demotivation, hopelessness, and loss of interest in work. An alternative is Rosehip tea, which is a packed with vitamin C. This refreshing, berry-tasting tea is an ideal way to start your Monday that will leave you feeling rejuvenated and ready for the week ahead. You can always change it up by adding some ice cubes for a cool, refreshing alternative. This also works well with green or fruit teas.

Feeling under the weather? 

There’s not much in life that can’t be fixed, or at least eased, with a hot cup of tea, and feeling sick is no exception to that rule. Many teas contain antioxidants and medicinal qualities that will help get you back to feeling your best. Peppermint tea contains menthol, which has a cooling and numbing effect, perfect for soothing headaches or congestion. Upset stomach or feeling nauseous? Reach for a cup of ginger tea, the anti-inflammatory properties mean that it works well as a pain reliever.  

The cure for hangovers.

We’ve all been there… whether you’re still feeling the effects of the weekend, or Thirsty Thursday went on a bit later than anticipated, hangovers at work are sometimes unavoidable. Reverse the effects of alcohol consumption with a few cups of Turmeric tea. This warming blend encourages regeneration and repair of liver cells, often needed after a night of drinking. It is also famous for being a super spice, known for it’s anti-inflammatory and pain relieving qualities.  

Beat the post-lunch slump.

Herbal teas are great for when you want to give yourself an energy boost without the caffeine intake that you’d get from coffee. Liquorice tea is a good example of this. It helps to relieve stress and boost your mood to keep you going for the rest of the day. It also stabilises blood sugar levels so you won't hit a wall and crave a sugar rush.  

For when you’re on a health kick.

We all get the feeling when we’ve indulged too much, or not been taking care of ourselves and decide we’re to go on a health kick. Green tea is an easy way to detoxify your body, inside and out. It is packed with antioxidants and nutrients that help with weight loss, killing bacteria that can lead to viruses and tooth decay, as well as improving your skin. You’ll be feeling better in yourself and glowing in no time. Not to mention you’ll still get your caffeine fix…
